Electronic House has announced the winners of its 2011 Product of the Year Awards during an awards presentation at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
Covering 35 different categories, the winning entries were chosen by a panel of industry experts, integrators and the editors of Electronic House. Judging criteria included creativity, innovation, incorporated equipment, obstacles overcome, aesthetics, and lifestyle benefits.
Fire Safety
In-O-Vate Technologies Inc LintAlert
According to the U.S. Fire Administration, clothes dryers were involved in an estimated 15,600 U.S. structure fires, fifteen deaths, 400 injuries, and $99 million in direct property damage, annually, between 2002-2004. While the majority of lint is trapped by the dryer’s lint filter, a fair portion escapes past this initial filter screen and is suspended in the moist heated exhaust air. Due to the characteristics of the exhaust conduit and the vent hood, lint build-up is a natural occurrence. Over time this lint buildup in the dryer vent reduces air flow and accelerates more lint buildup. Lint blow-back into the appliance is the result and becomes the ultimate ignition concern. Technical innovation revolves around the use and integration of the MB-LPS1-01 series low-pressure sensor. The transducer is a MEMS-based thermo-anemometer on a monolithic silicon chip. Rejustor technology combined with CMOS circuitry provides on-chip-integrated analog-only compensation and conditioning electronics. Essentially, the less air-flow a sensor requires through its body to make its measurement, the more ideal is the behavior of the sensor, and the better is the immunity to dust-bearing air. Our sensor provides very high flow impedance and therefore is very well suited for the challenge of the dryers’ environment. The LintAlert would not be what it is without this remarkable pressure sensor. A custom tap fitting is installed in the dryers’ transition hose at or near the dryers exhaust port. This SmartTap™ fitting is connected to the alarm module by a 1/8” I.D. vinyl PVC clear tube and allows the pressure sensor to monitor pressure levels in the dryers’ flex transition hose and the balance of the exhaust conduit. Dual purpose considerations were important in the design. The alarm module doubles as a simple night light, and the pass through electrical terminal provides an extra outlet.
Displays
LG Electronics LX9500 3D LED HDTV
The 55LX9500 is LG’s first 3D Ready LED LCD HDTV. The 3D ready capability of this model allows consumers to enjoy their home entertainment as if the action was unfolding right in their living room, offering them an extraordinary gaming and entertainment viewing experience with special glasses. LG’s 3D technology works with active shutter glasses and an emitter built directly into the television. LG increases LCD motion response time with TruMotion 480Hz technology, using a combination of 240Hz processing and scanning backlight to achieve a new level of motion performance. Combined with LG’s unique IPS panels, this virtually eliminates motion blur and improves picture quality at different viewing angles. TruMotion 480Hz technology also eliminates messy transitions between images by constantly timing each section of the screen until the pixels are ready with the new image. The end result for the consumer is a crisp, clean picture that eliminates the “zigzags” in rapidly-moving images. LG also improved overall style and picture quality with “Full LED Slim.”
