Electronic House has announced the winners of its 2011 Product of the Year Awards during an awards presentation at CES 2011 in Las Vegas.
Covering 35 different categories, the winning entries were chosen by a panel of industry experts, integrators and the editors of Electronic House. Judging criteria included creativity, innovation, incorporated equipment, obstacles overcome, aesthetics, and lifestyle benefits.

Video Components & Processors

OPPO Digital BDP-93 Blu-ray Disc Player

The OPPO BDP-93 Blu-ray Disc player is designed with the best video and audio quality in mind. As a successor to the multi-awards winning BDP-83, it continues to support universal disc playback (Blu-ray, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, Super Audio CD, CD, etc.) and adds 3D support with dual HDMI 1.4a outputs and network content streaming via the included wireless or wired network. The product design is centered around our two-processor architecture: one main processor to handle audio/video decoding, and a special video processor to further refine the video quality.

Loudspeakers & Subwoofers

Velodyne Acoustics Digital DrivePLUS-18

In 2003, Velodyne’s Digital Drive servo-controlled subwoofers addressed two key issues for subwoofers—system integration and room interaction. Utilizing their on-board ability you could adjust all the parameters for integration into the main speaker system and adjust for room bass interaction using an onboard 8-band parametric equalization system. Totally unique to this technology was the real-time video feedback of the results on the consumer’s TV. Building on that experience, the new generation Digital DrivePLUS-18 produces the industry’s lowest distortion bass (under ½ %) with huge output and impact. It incorporates an incredibly stiff yet ultra-light Rohacell cone driven by a 1250 watts RMS patented, 97% efficient, Energy Recovery System Class D amp and monitored by a Digital High Gain Servo control, which makes this 18” sub as responsive as a 12”. However, some of the greatest improvements come from the ease of set-up and level of automation.
